Every day, I tell myself I’d need 48 hours to get everything done… Unfortunately, there are only 24 hours in a day, and out of those, I need at least 6 hours to sleep—if the baby cooperates…
Today, I sat down on my couch and said to myself, “RELAX, MOM! You’ll get everything done by Christmas…! ” … I sure hope so, but I have so much to do… I feel sorry for myself—I’m on vacation, and all I can think about is planning my return to work, ALREADY. All because once I’m back at work, I don’t want to be rushing around and look like the disorganized mom. So my vacation schedule is: sorting through our important papers, calling to schedule our appointments and fitting them all in during those four weeks, doing laundry, preparing frozen meals for when I finish late at the office, doing a deep clean so I can finally sell my house, my college assignments that I’ve been putting off for the past few weeks and that are now due tomorrow, etc., etc., etc., etc., …
NO, SERIOUSLY, JUST RELAX, MOM.
As I write this, I’m setting just one goal for my vacation…. TO RELAX! To enjoy the time I have with my kids, with my boyfriend, and especially to try to see my friends whom I don’t have time to see during our busy daily lives.
I’m committed to taking the time… taking the time to enjoy life, do family activities, relax in my pool, have a coffee in the morning sun—in short, savor the moments that won’t come back…Paperwork can wait, and so can the big cleaning spree; I’ll sell my house in November—it’s no big deal. We’ll make do with frozen meals as we go, and worst-case scenario, we’ll eat at McDonald’s every now and then—my kids and my boyfriend won’t die. As for my college work, my goodness, procrastination is all too common… I’m committed to stopping procrastination and getting everything done ahead of time… to blocking off that time in my calendar, so I can enjoy life instead of panicking and wishing there were 48 hours in a day.
Do as I do—make this your goal: get things done ahead of time, or just take two minutes to realize how much the less important tasks we have to do can wait… we need to enjoy the moments in life that won’t come back before taking care of our little daily chores. Come on, enjoy your vacation to the fullest!
