It’s time we looked each other straight in the eye. For once, I’m asking you to be quiet and listen to me. I’m more than sick and tired of you having the upper hand most of the time. I’m more than sick and tired of letting you have the last word. I’m more than sick and tired of giving you so much importance and so much space in my life.
You keep me from enjoying the present moment, all those little, seemingly insignificant things that are actually so precious. You tear away a part of my memories, a part of those beautiful days. You come along and taint those beautiful moments by sticking your nose in. You take control of my mind, of the way I see things. You take control of my thoughts—and my heart, too.
Even when I think you’re far away, you manage to pop up. Even when I think you’re gone for just a little while, you manage to resurface when I least expect it. Even when I think I’m strong, you find your way back to me and show me that, deep down, I’m not strong enough yet.
Except that every day, I’m working harder and harder to get you out of my life. Every day, I talk to myself and do everything in my power to toughen up. Every day, I tell myself that you don’t deserve any of what you’ve taken from me.
You’ve stolen enough from me. Now, I’m taking back what’s rightfully mine. All those family moments, all those getaways, outings, vacations, events, and more—they no longer belong to you. You won’t have a single fraction of a second of my life anymore. This time, enough is enough!
With all my strength and from the very depths of my being, I’m sending you packing as far away as you can go. I’m going to fight tooth and nail, and I’m going to keep telling myself this over and over again. It might not always be easy, but I guarantee you won’t have the upper hand anymore. Disappear—you no longer have any hold over me. I’m taking back the wheel and driving far, far away from you.
Anxiety, damn anxiety—it’s over between you and me!
