Discoveries

1-Feet

You, my little guy, are discovering all sorts of things. You know just a tiny fraction of what we adults know. When you were a tiny-tiny baby, you spent two months discovering your feet. You were absolutely thrilled—seeing them, touching them, and especially because they followed you everywhere we went. Your dad and I had a good laugh over the story of those two little feet. It was so cute to watch.

2. The Personal Thing

You kept growing and discovering the parts of your body that stick out, like your penis! You’d pull that thing around in your bath as if it were a super-mega-rubber band. Sometimes I’d close my eyes because I was afraid that little thing would get stuck in your hand. At least you refrained from doing it in public places. You’re only 3 years old now, so the “penis phase” is surely far from over.

3-Smells

When you walk into the house and there’s a smell of food, you ask, “What’s that smell, Mom?” When I put on perfume, you tell me, “Mom smells good!” But this discovery also comes with the gross part when you scratch your butt and stick your fingers in my nose to say, “Look, Mom, it stinks!”

4-The… “ark!”

Our bodies produce all kinds of waste, and boogers are part of that. According to you, my 3-year-old, it’s super clean, and we don’t need a tissue when we have a mouth. It’s funny how kids have no inhibitions! You pull out a huge booger and slowly guide it into your mouth… Yuck! In a single day, I might say 15 times, “Take your finger out of your nose!” You constantly have a finger up your nose, even when you’re walking down the street. What a weirdo!

But through all these stages—the fun ones and the not-so-fun ones—I’m impressed by how many discoveries a child can make in a single week. It’s really adorable. What about you—which discovery made the biggest impression on you?
