When my partner and I started trying for a baby, we’d always said we wanted two kids in total. No more, no less! Our kids are now 3 and 6 years old, and we love them with all our hearts! We’ve settled into our own little rhythm, our daily life as a family of four, and everything’s going pretty well.
Except that for a while now, my ovaries have been acting up, and I’ve started daydreaming about having a third child. I don’t know how to bring up the subject with my partner, because I’m afraid he’ll flat-out refuse. I’m still young—I just turned 34—we both have good careers, and we could financially support a third child; that’s not the issue. The real concern is disrupting the balance we’ve worked so hard to achieve and have cherished ever since.

The arrival of a new baby inevitably disrupts our routine (for the better, in my opinion!), and I know we’d have another somewhat challenging 2–3 years ahead of us, especially since our youngest is still in daycare. But I deeply believe we could rise to this challenge and come out of it even more filled with love! Yeah, I’m kind of rehearsing my arguments for my conversation with my partner, haha!
In all honesty, I expect my partner to say no, and I won’t launch an aggressive campaign to convince him to change his mind. I’d like him to come on board with my plan of his own free will so it becomes “ours.”
For me, this third child would represent the last chance to experience life with a baby for nine months and witness all the magic of a child’s early development. It seems I haven’t quite “moved on” from the experience of pregnancy and the joy of welcoming a baby into our home.
I’ll bring up the subject with my partner soon, and I really hope he’s open to the idea!
Have you ever felt this desire to have another child? What decision did you make?
