There are moms out there who are the type to rush over and kiss the boo-boo of their child who just fell… well, I’m not that kind of mom!
“Come on, get up—it’s just a little scratch; you’re not going to die! Do you want us to call an ambulance?” Yep, that’s just how I am! (Let’s be clear: if they get more than a scratch, of course I’ll check on them and take care of them…) When my youngest kids ask me to help them, I just can’t help myself! I pull out the “Can’t-Do-It is dead—his little brother’s name is Try”
I respect moms who are the complete opposite of me, but I love it when they figure out a way to manage on their own. So, when my older kids told me they wanted a PS4, well, I replied, “Find a way to save up your money, and you’ll go buy it yourselves!” (I figured we’d look into it for next Christmas...) Well, guess what?!? They did it!!!! The three of them collected their money and recycled bottles and cans for 7 months! $330 later, a PS4 was set up!
It’s worth noting that they probably don’t have much of my DNA: I struggle to fill up my savings account. OOPS
Far be it from me to brag, but I’ve officially raised kids with a well-developed knack for resourcefulness! I’M OVER THE MOON!! I just hope that as they grow up, they’ll keep this instinct for finding solutions to their problems and that it’ll serve them well throughout their lives.
