The Little Angels

When the last school bell rings, the students will jump for joy!

When the kids start getting restless, eagerly awaiting the arrival of all those beautifully wrapped gifts, little angels like me will once again be in a state of utter turmoil.

Because, unlike you, the closer Christmas gets, the more fear gnaws at me…

At just 8 years old, I have a hard time explaining exactly what’s on my mind. Still, I’ll try to describe what’s so hard for me to bear.

This year, I’ll be lucky enough to spend Christmas Eve in a warm, loving, and welcoming place!

However, this environment isn’t quite my own yet. I’ve only been living there for two months.

This new place where I’ve been welcomed so warmly is my foster family!

Despite their willingness to listen, their availability, and their kindness, it’s hard for me to understand certain things. Why won’t either my mother or my father be by my side during these precious days? Am I to blame for something? Did I make a mistake?

Dear readers, I can sense your concern for my well-being. Is it even possible to remain unmoved by a situation like mine?

However, don’t worry too much—there are people around me who are working tirelessly to protect me and ensure that certain emotions (pain, sorrow, rage, guilt) and certain feelings (abandonment, rejection) don’t overwhelm me.

• “You know, your parents love you.”

• « … »

• “Your parents just need time to get back on their feet and become the good parents you deserve!”

You know, I’m not the only one having a hard time right now. There are other sad little angels around you who are going through the same heartache as I am.

This year, we all wrote a letter to Santa. Do you know what it says?

“Please, Santa, take care of my parents—I love them so much!”

*** During this holiday season, my thoughts go out to these sad little angels, but they also go out to the foster families who play a unique role in the lives of these wounded little ones. Finally, I think of all those who do the same work as I do and who always feel like they’re not doing enough… that they’re not doing nearly enough…

Don’t be mistaken—we, too, make a difference!

P.S. Santa, could you put each of these letters in the Christmas stocking of each of these parents?

Thank you, X
