It's not that I don't like my life. It's not that I don't love my family, my job, or my friends. But sometimes, I'd like to go far away.
It's not that I don't like who I am or who I'm becoming.
But sometimes, I'd go far away.
Our lives are filled with stress and responsibilities. It’s a constant race against the clock between taking care of the kids, work, running errands, and endless loads of laundry, NAME IT.
I love my life. I love my kids with all my heart, but sometimes the routine is killing me. I’d love to get away. I’d buy a ticket to go lose myself in some out-of-the-way outfitter’s lodge. (And no, I’m not the type to go on an all-inclusive trip down south to roast like a sausage in the sun!)
I'd buy a ticket to a little cabin with no cell service. Just me, my fishing rod, and absolute peace and quiet.
It's not that I want to run away from my life and my responsibilities, but sometimes I'd like to be alone with myself—to remember who I am outside of my life as a mom/blonde/dispatch full-time. Just a few days, to rediscover who I was before all this. Because let’s be honest...I haven’t seen that girl in a very long time, and sometimes I miss her. That slightly carefree girl who could spend hours listening to music at full volume, or the one who could stare at the ceiling of her room in total silence. I miss that silence. Because when you have kids, silence is a rare commodity!
I'm light-years away from the girl who once managed to listen to all three extended versions of the The Lord of the Rings without even getting out of bed (yeah, yeah, that’s a 12-hour movie!). But when you try to excel at everything—as a mom, as a girlfriend, and in your career—you end up burning the candle a little faster than you’d like.
Sometimes I'd like to go far away for a few days to clear my mind and recharge.
Sometimes I’d like to get away for a few days, so I can come back stronger and continue to give my best in every area of my life.
