It was March 2020. Time had come to a standstill. The streets had become deserted. Stores were closing one after another. The most vulnerable were told to listen and stay home. Sacrifices piled up and came one after another. Young people had nothing left but social media to stay in touch. The future of their education was no longer in their hands. Hospitals were becoming increasingly overwhelmed. Resources were slow to arrive. Our guardian angels were working under difficult and unenviable conditions. We “flashed” our headlights as a sign of support for them and for all those trying to maintain a modicum of order and essential services in this world. Fear was becoming a reality, and each passing day felt the same. Like the rest of the population, our routines were put on hold. For many, loneliness was the worst challenge they could ever have imagined facing.
Spring, however, knew nothing of this. In the sky, the sun was shining; birds were beginning to return from their long journey. The grass was finally ready to sprout. The days were getting longer. The snow was losing its luster. The sugar shack had been spruced up.
But spring didn’t know. It didn’t know that we couldn’t enjoy it that year—at least not in the same way as usual. Because a virus hadn’t had its final say, and some people didn’t believe in this intruder; they didn’t see it as a danger. Yet it was far from being a bad joke…
It was March 2020. Everyone understood why we had to stay home. For once in our lives, we had the time to step back, rest, and take our time… Things we rarely—if ever—allowed ourselves to do.
Everything will work out—stay safe and enjoy life and time with your family. Put the future into perspective. Together, we’re stronger until the very end.
And you—how are you looking forward to spring?
