My daughter, I’d like to tell you

My little darling, I’d like to say these few words to you…

I’d like to tell you that I love you more than you can even imagine. You are my flesh and blood, a part of my soul. You mean everything to me.
Know that you are beautiful, my sweetheart.

I’d like to tell you that I’ll wipe away every one of your tears, tend to every one of your wounds, share in every one of your joys, and that every moment of your happiness will fill my heart.
I’d like to tell you that sometimes, I’m always running out of time. I’d like to tell you that sometimes, I lack patience, and I regret it. I’d like to tell you that every hug from you means the world to me, but that the demands of daily life mean I don’t get to enjoy them as much as I’d like.
Know that you’re magnificent and that you’re worth your weight in gold, my sweetheart.

I wish you’d never doubt yourself. I wish I could spare you from many of the things that might happen to you. I wish you knew just how incredible you are and that no one has the right to make you question that. Because as beautiful as life can be, there are things I won’t be able to spare you from, and there are people I won’t be able to keep from crossing your path.
Know that you are beautiful, that you are pure gold, and that your worth is immeasurable.

My daughter, cover your ears when those people speak. Close your eyes when their stares judge you. Never let their words reach your heart; don’t let them leave even the slightest trace there. Don’t worry about those who won’t realize what they’re missing. Don’t worry about people who want to take advantage of you or who won’t treat you the way you deserve to be treated. Tell them to get lost, ignore them, and keep moving forward.
Know that you are magnificent, that you are pure gold, that your worth is immeasurable, and that you can do great things, my sweetheart.

Know this, repeat it to yourself every day, and if that’s not enough, sweetheart, come see me and I’ll tell you again and again.
