When you saw those two little lines appear on your test, you thanked heaven for sending you a little treasure to cherish.
When you had your mid-pregnancy ultrasound, you thanked life once again for the healthy little one nestled in your belly.
When your brand-new baby came into the world, you felt infinitely blessed and grateful that everything had gone well and that your little one was in great shape.
Then you came home with a wealth of theoretical knowledge, but very little practical experience...
You experienced countless moments of deep, unbreakable love. You felt wonder and bliss in the presence of this tiny human who never ceased to surprise you and fill you with his infectious joy.
But you’ve also had moments of discouragement and sadness. You’ve felt a sense of failure, loneliness, and helplessness when you faced challenges with your newborn.
And you let yourself vent to everyone about just how hard it can be to be a mom! And you don’t have to feel guilty about it. It’s completely human—and above all, it feels good to cry a little sometimes!
But I’d just like to tell you…
When things aren’t going well, remember the feelings that washed over you when you saw the lines appear on your pregnancy test, when you saw your baby on the ultrasound screen, and when you held him in your arms for the first time. It’ll help you get through the tougher times.
Because you know, little mom, you’re lucky. Lucky to have a healthy little baby and to be healthy enough to take care of them.
Ever since I became a mom, I’ve read a lot of personal stories—stories about sick children or about moms and dads who are sick.
Every time, it cuts right through me. It touches me deep in my soul, and I thank heaven for sparing me those struggles.
When I read these kinds of stories, I suddenly feel ridiculous about my little everyday worries.
Because the truth is, you never know when misfortune will strike. For me and for all of you, I sincerely hope that moment never comes.
Nevertheless, I had to share this thought with you. Without telling you to stop venting about irritating situations by grumbling, I’d simply like to remind you to always keep in mind just how lucky you are. It will certainly help soften those moments that feel overwhelming.
I also wanted to take a moment to tip my hat to all those parents dealing with illness. I can only imagine your pain. I can’t say that I understand you, nor can I pretend that you’re strong or brave. Life has forced a battle upon you that you have no choice but to face.
You are models of resilience. You are admirable for all the effort you put into standing tall to weather the storm. You are incredible in your determination to provide your family with as “normal” a life as possible.
You deserve every honor, all the help and support available—and more.
No parent should ever have to watch their child suffer. Just as no parent should ever have to put family life on hold to fight for their own life.
Every day, let’s thank heaven for this blessing we have. Every day, let’s spare a thought for those who have to fight.
When we lose our way a little in our daily routine, let’s try not to lose sight of what really matters 😉
