Letter to My Mosquito

This is for you, the little one who was taken from me. Every day, you find your way into my thoughts; every day, until the very end, I will think of you. You brought something into my life despite your brief time here. Every child, no matter how short their journey, will have an impact on their parents’ lives. For some, it’s a youthful mistake; for others, the worst pain I could ever feel. For me, you’re simply my child, my angel—I’ll never regret the time you spent with me. I may have been very young, but believe me, you would have been so happy.

Today, I want to tell you about myself, about the journey I’ve taken, with you by my side, in my heart. I want to tell you about your dad, your stepdad, your little sister, and most of all, about me, your mom. To start with, your dad and I aren’t together anymore; this loss and our young age have driven us apart. I haven’t spoken to him in five years now; even though he was important to me, I just can’t bring myself to do it! Sometimes he checks in on me through people around me. However, despite the pain our breakup caused me, I’ve kept moving forward with my life. Then I met my current partner, your stepdad. He’s such a wonderful person; he often tells me he probably would have loved playing that role in your life. Together, we had your sister—a real little bundle of energy and joy. You would have adored her! She’s so wonderful!

Then there’s me, your Mom—a strong, determined, ambitious woman. I hope you’re proud of me up there on your little cloud, that you’re smiling as you watch me, just as I smile when I look up at the sky—I’m smiling right back at you. I wanted to write these words to you today to thank you for changing me forever. A child changes a life, no matter where they are. To you, my little mosquito, know that one day, we’ll be reunited and we’ll have plenty of time to catch up. Mom misses you and loves you forever.

Noah! My little mosquito, my angel, my baby!
