My precious children

You give meaning to my life. When I find myself alone, I miss you. It’s as if a piece of me is missing. The distance between us makes me anxious. I have a hard time thinking that one day, I’ll have to let you spread your wings and fly on your own.

When I’m sad, your gaze and the way you sometimes try—in your own zany way—to help me forget my sorrow mean so much to me. It’s often clumsy, but coming from you, it’s comforting. I agree—listening to you shout, laugh, and tell me about your days has nothing to do with yoga or taking a nice hot bath. Except that for me, it’s just as good. I admit, I have a hard time thinking about myself, even though I know how nice it would be. I have moments of discouragement, of course, but over time I’m managing to get used to it. I sense that you’re happy and enthusiastic, and that becomes my therapy—it helps me take my mind off the daily grind.

You do me good, often without even knowing it. You give me a goal to strive for when I think everything is ruined. I’ll make—and I do make—sacrifices over and over again, with or without judgment; it doesn’t matter.

The rides I give you to your classes get me out of the house. That break is always welcome. Those are my favorite moments of the week. We take the opportunity to chat and open up to each other. Maybe I don’t say it enough—or maybe I say it too much—but I love you. It’s only natural, and it would be strange if I didn’t; I can barely imagine that being possible.

Keep getting into your little mischiefs; tell me about your adventures, each one more exciting than the last. Your dreams, your fears, and your sorrows—they’ll never bother me; quite the opposite. I want hugs and kisses. They can be a little clingy sometimes, but I love them—they’re the best.

It’s wonderful to be a mom—it pushes you to surpass yourself, to push past your limits, and to do what you thought was impossible. It brings us back to basic values, to what truly matters. I want to thank you, my beautiful darlings, for being here and for making me the mother and the woman I am. I feel stronger and more fulfilled thanks to your presence in my life.

And you—how do your children make you feel?
