The Never-Ending Return of Germs

Unfortunately, summer has come to an end, much to my regret. I imagine I’m not the only one who already misses it! Its departure heralds the return of germs. Yeah, yeah—you know, the ones that knock on your door uninvited?! To be honest, no one would invite them in anyway. Whether it’s a simple cold or any of the “-itis” conditions (ear infections, bronchitis, sinusitis, conjunctivitis…), we don’t want anything coming near our kids—and certainly not one of those pesky germs!

There are two times of year that bring us the worst of them all: a short six-letter word that sends a chill down families’ spines—GASTRO! Oh no! That one is clearly the worst of them all! If it gets in anywhere, it wreaks havoc. Whether at daycare or at home, everyone becomes completely paranoid—and with good reason! This virus can ruin all your plans in the blink of an eye and force you to make new ones—like going from a fun day out with the gang to a full-scale disinfection of your house. And that’s not even mentioning your washing machine, which is going to get a real workout.

On top of seeing your kids completely “out of it” (because there’s no other word to describe the situation), you’ll have to carry your family on your shoulders while praying to God that you don’t go down in the fight too.

I’m not going to give you a lecture about thinking of others when your little treasures are sick. No one can afford to miss a day of work, but no one can afford to deal with whatever you might bring with you to daycare. You already know all this!

So, cold and flu season is officially upon us. I wish you all the best of luck! We should make it through until next summer!
