Back in my day, sex, alcohol, proms, and murders were practically unheard of in our TV shows. When I think back on those old shows, I remember copying certain characters’ styles, learning important values, and daydreaming about Maxime Desbiens-Tremblay—or just wanting to be friends with them. These days—and for future generations—it seems there’s a new norm: SSP—Sex, Blood, and Problems.
When I watch *Riverdale*, *Pretty Little Liars*, or even a show like *Insatiable*, I think about who my daughter will want to imitate, who she’ll fantasize about, and it scares me. These shows glorify chaos and taboos as if they were normal. It seems that what producers don’t understand is that the shows young people watch shape their adolescence—that’s when they’ll try to figure out who they are and develop their own personalities. Do I want my daughter to become like Cheryl Blossom from *Riverdale*, or to think that what Patty does in *Insatiable* is normal? No!
I won’t lie to you—I watch these shows myself—but I’m disheartened by what they mean for future generations. Where are our *Ramdam*, *Watatatow*, or even our beloved *Loup-garou du Campus*? They’ve been replaced by *Riverdale*, *Pretty Little Liars*, and *Teen Wolf*. Have you ever compared them? There’s a difference in values, priorities, and the role models presented to our children.
It’s true that we shouldn’t let our children shape their futures based on these characters, but that’s all the media is good for these days! They’ve become role models for our children—not exactly the best role models, I’d say. So, dear parents, if you’re lucky enough to still have the VHS tapes or DVDs of your favorite shows from your youth, I urge you: keep them; one day they’ll be a treasure for those you love—for your children.
So I’m heading back to UnisTv to watch *Tactik*, a children’s series that promotes mutual support, friendship, and sports—with some truly great values. Think about it carefully! Do you want your children to be like the characters in the world of *Riverdale* or those from *Ramdam*? Do you want them to have personalities like the characters from *Pretty Little Liars* or *Watatatow*? What values do you want to pass on to your children? Which shows do you want to shape their teenage years with?
