Upcycle Your Moving Leftovers

That’s it! You did it!

You’ve survived your move!

Sure, there’s probably still plenty left to do, but you and your little ones have made it to your new place. You’ve unpacked boxes—at least a few dozen! And now you’re stuck with tons of cardboard that the limited capacity of your recycling bin means you have to keep around.

My passion in life is DIY! So I suggest you combine business with pleasure: turn all that material into something that will keep your kids busy while you finish hanging your curtains or putting up your picture frames.

Advice Column

This move will certainly stir up a whole range of emotions for your kids. If you’re “at your wit’s end,” so are they—in their own way. They might not dare tell you that they’re scared of the new sounds in the house or that they miss their friends from the old neighborhood. Why not build a nice mailbox together where you can exchange letters? Your little one can write down what they’re thinking deep down but don’t dare say out loud, or send you their best drawings. And on your end, why not leave them a bunch of sweet little notes to comfort them?

Car Play Area

A mat for racing toy cars is fun. But it seems that after a while, it just becomes part of the decor—the little ones forget about it… That’s when the biggest box from your move becomes your best friend—you know, the one you regretted packing because it took three of you to move it. You can transform it into a classic playhouse or turn it into a dream hideout for kids who love all kinds of vehicles. Success guaranteed! And you’ll have some peace and quiet to wash all your windows!

Recyclable Ball

With the smallest pieces, you can make little cardboard balls that are super fun and easy for little hands to grab. It’s the perfect game for heading outside and exploring your new yard or the neighborhood park. And once everyone’s had a good time, hop right into the recycling bin (the ball, not the kids… Hehe!)

Summer Theater

Summer is made for playing. Kids know that all too well. You’ll definitely make them happy by building a little puppet theater that you can set up outside—one where your little ones can hide behind the curtain to make up stories. Here’s a great way to spark their creativity while enjoying the nice weather.

There you go! Your kids have plenty to keep them busy. Now you can tackle the final little details so the whole family feels at home and you can get off to a good start in your new home.
