2020.
The age of social media and smartphones. The age of parents who spend a little less quality time with their kids because they’re too busy judging Suzanne on Facebook for going to Cancun again this year.
I’m going to tell you how it really is, okay? Try not to take it the wrong way and make sure you understand what I’m about to say.
I often see moms in Facebook groups complaining that their kids are “out of this world.” These same moms who post 4–5 times a day and are very active in these groups—they seem to literally spend all their time on Facebook and other apps.
If you find that your child is rowdy, that they’re always screaming, that you almost think they have a behavioral problem because they’re so desperate for attention that they’ll do anything…
Have you, for just two seconds, thought about putting your phone away, setting it aside, and playing with your child? Spending some quality time with them? Have you asked them how their day went? Have you asked them to help you make dinner? Have you sat on the floor to play with them? Have you read them a bedtime story?
I don’t want to judge any mom—I know we’re all doing our best. Unfortunately, I was that mom for a while, and that’s why I’m talking to you about this today—to raise your awareness.
Life goes by fast, which means your kids are growing up before your eyes—and you don’t want to wait until they’re 20 to start paying attention.
(By the way, I’m not referring to parents of children who have been diagnosed with actual behavioral disorders.)
