That's a joke!!!

My ex was the king of corny jokes on the 1ster April! Do you know any little pranksters? This was a far cry from a fish stuck to your back! Most of the time, his parents were the victims of his pranks, and they fell for it every year—it was a sure thing! I used to think it would eventually stop working. Well, no! Year after year, he’d come up with a new story.

He might pretend he was pregnant again or say that our dog had gone missing, for example. He even went so far as to claim he’d been in an accident once. He’d called his parents in a panic, saying the car was a total loss. He’d call them at any hour of the day or night to pull off his annual prank so he wouldn’t miss his chance. He took great delight in seeing them fall for his stories every single time. I’m not sure you could say it was always very funny, but he certainly enjoyed it!

I’m really bad at acting. When I try to lie, it’s written all over my face that I’m making stuff up! I do like the idea of having fun playing pranks on the kids, though, and I’ll admit that with my daughters, I play along. Ever since they were little, I’ve gotten them into the game of “sticking a fish on each other’s backs while pretending the other person hasn’t noticed!”

It depends on the year—sometimes I’m completely disorganized, and we end up making the fish at the last minute that very morning. When I’m better prepared, we print out the fish, draw them, and cut them out. A little piece of tape, and we’re all set. All that’s left is to try to be subtle… but that’s another story! It’s definitely one of the days of the year when I get the most hugs for no reason! And I go all in. I act silly and pretend not to see their huge smiles. They’re really having fun, and that’s what matters!

On the 1ster April is the month of pranks, silly jokes, and fake news! Keep a close eye on your Facebook feed because it might be full of nonsense—and your back… full of fish!
