My friends, my family.

My friends, my family.

To me, my friends are my second family. I don’t think I’m the only one who sees it that way. If anything were to happen to any one of them, the bond we share would make itself felt. In fact, we’ve seen proof of that recently.

One quiet winter evening, panic set in when we saw on social media that our friends’ house was on fire. It’s in moments like these that we realize even more how precious our friends are.

A general sense of concern spread throughout our large circle of friends. There were about twenty of us hoping they were okay, that they were safe, and waiting to hear from them. Fortunately, the news was good, despite everything.

That’s when I saw—and I know I’m not the only one—our time together with friends in a whole new light.

The next day, we all went out to dinner together. We’d been planning this dinner for a week. That evening was an intense, emotional time. Hugging our friends didn’t feel the same as usual. Seeing them alive and well brought us back to what really matters. Yes, they’d lost everything, but they were there, with us.

For my part, I realized that my friends are more than just friends. We’re a family, and that’s what we treasure most. Seeing our family grow year after year with the arrival of new little members is a beautiful thing. Seeing us grow together, bound tightly despite the trials and obstacles, is something truly magnificent.

My friends are my family; I love them dearly, and I’m so lucky to have them!
